SCIENCE SLIME

You will need:

1 Tablespoon of Borax (a powder found in grocery stores)
Elmer's white school glue
Water
A medicine measuring cup
A Zip Loc bag.

(1) Make a solution containing half glue and half water
(2) Mix it well
(3) Dissolve 1 heaped tablespoon of Borax in 250mL of water. (It may not all dissolve. That’s okay)
(4) Put 30mL of the Borax solution into a Zip Loc bag
(5) Add 60mL of the glue solution. Seal the bag.
(6) Massage with your hands until slimy.

(If you want to get really messy add some food colouring but BEWARE your hands may stain)

Science slime is a polymer. The borax solution you added acts as a “connector” or a cross-linking agent for the glue molecules. This means the smaller glue molecules join up with the borax molecules to form much larger molecules called polymers. The links between these molecules give the slime properties of both liquid and solid molecules and allow it to be stretchy and slimy.
